1. Ok, How does this work? What are you guys up to?:

footsteps.tv is very simple yet powerful. In a nutshell our system allows you to leave safe multimedia messages for delivery to any person in case something happens to you (death, sickness, etc).

First you need to register and get an account, then all you need to do is name your beneficiaries upload your messages and name your Virtual Angels (please read on).

In due time your account will be activated by your Virtual Angels and your messages delivered to the beneficiaries per your instructions.

2. Who are these "Beneficiaries"?:

The beneficiaries are the persons you want to leave messages to, they can be your sons or daughters, parents, friends, coworkers, anyone you would like to say something to when you are gone.

3. And what about the "Virtual Angels"?, who are they? a baseball team?:

The Virtual Angels are persons designated by you that are entrusted with the responsibility of activating your account. They must be close to you in real life so they'd know right away if something happened.

When you select a Virtual Angel an email is sent briefing them of the objective of footsteps.tv and requesting them to accept such role for you. If they do, a further communication is sent with an encrypted code; this code is unique and is the key to activate your account and therefore trigger your messages.

In the account overview window you are always informed of the status of your Virtual Angels; only those who have accepted are presented as eligible.

As an extra security measure you can set the number of Activations necessary to have your messages actually sent. For example; Let's say you have designated 3 friends as Virtual Angels but set 2 as Activation number ; then in order to activate your account any 2 out of your 3 Virtual Angels need to enter their codes.

4. How long will you hold my files for? I don't plan to check out any time soon:

All our accounts will be held for 99 years, you can extend your account at that time.

5. How many messages can I leave behind in Footsteps.tv?:

There is no limit to the number of messages that you can leave behind but there is a space limit, at this time the accounts can hold 100mb of information, so it depends on how big your files are, images and videos are bigger than text documents.

6. How many beneficiaries can I have?:

There is no limit to the number of beneficiaries you can have

7. How many beneficiaries can I have per message:

You can have anywhere from 1 to 30 different beneficiaries per different message.

8. Can I change or update my messages or beneficiaries? I still have a lot of things to do:

Absolutely! You can change your messages and beneficiaries any time you want for as many times as you want.

9. What happens if my beneficiaries or Virtual Angels change their email?:

It's your responsibility to keep your beneficiaries emails up to date (the thing is we will never contact your beneficiaries until your account is activated and the time has come for us to deliver your messages, so we can't just ask for their email), but we have an automatic system that will remind you of this every 6 months.

In the case of the Virtual Angels we have an automatic system that will check their emails every 6 months, the system will also verify if your Virtual Angels are still up to the task and report back to you.

10. What happens if I change my email or personal information?:

You can change and update your personal information such as email changes inside the system at any time.

11. How do I know that my archives are 100% secure and that no one is going to take a peek at them? Hell I may be posting a lot of personal stuff in here:

We care very much about the safety and well keeping of your files, we use the latest in computer technology to ensure that no one but you has access to your files and once your account is activated these files will only be sent to the people you designated, our entire site is encrypted using 128bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology, you may confirm this by the closed "Safe Website Lock" in your browser (look for it and double click on it), the entire site is encrypted, even before you login.

Just as important as a human threat is a natural disaster, we have redundant power and server systems to ensure that our service will never go offline, if anything were to happen we have a backup server ready to continue operating. A general system backup is made every 12 hours and for extra safety your information will be duplicated in at least 2 servers in different physical geographical locations.

12. Are my Beneficiaries previously advised of the messages and archives I have posted here at their disposal in case something happens to me? Jeez I don't want anyone curious about that huh?:

NO! The only time we will ever get in touch with your beneficiaries is if your account is activated and we need to deliver your messages. We will never EVER contact your beneficiaries!

13. Is footsteps.tv going to spam me? My Beneficiaries and friends? Be honest guys:

Nope! We will never EVER sell, rent or give out your personal information to any company, entity or deity, not one or anyone. We are always improving our system with new features and cool stuff and we'll notify you of this new features via email but only if you want to.

14. How can I be sure that footsteps.tv is not another bubble-dot-commer and goes bust? After all the time I have spent making movies, taking pictures, practicing my speeches and writing letters I want to be sure that this stays for good:

We are very commited to our site and we are not going anywhere, we have enough funding and infraestructure for a while. If we start to bounce checks we'll let you know ;)

15. Wait a minute guys, do the messages I leave here make a Legal Will and Testament to my Beneficiaries?:

NO! Whatever messages you leave here do NOT constitute a legal document in anyway. You are here to Leave a Trail behind, if you need a legal Will and Testament you may want to look for a lawyer.

16. Hmmm let's see, what happens if my Virtual Angel advises of my death and yet no one of my Beneficiaries logs in to download the archives I've left them? Or they maybe take say 6 months to log back in:

At the time of your account activation we'll try to contact your beneficiaries by all means available and hold your messages for an entire year after that. If no one downloads your messages in that time we'll have to delete them. Please keep in mind that it's your sole responsability to keep your beneficiaries contact information up to date at all times.

17. Jeez how about If my Virtual Angel dies before me?:

Your Virtual Angels should be people you are close with, persons that would know if anything happens to you so they can activate your account, in the same capacity you would know if anything happens to one of your Virtual Angels right?! You can change or edit your Virtual Angels at anytime.

18. Do you have special "I do yours if you do mine" packages for the Virtual Angels? I may Angel for a friend if he Angels for me:

We sure do! Just signup with a free account, when it's time to designate your Virtual Angels they will get an email explaining the whole thing.

19. Can my Virtual Angels or anyone else see my files?

As long as you keep your password safe only you can access your files. It's very important that you pick a good password (we have some excellent password guidelines in the Options section).

Your Virtual Angels can not see or have any kind of access to your files. The only two persons that will ever see your files are you and your beneficiaries.

20. How do I know that you footsteps.tv is legit? What are your credentials?

We understand that you will not trust just anyone with your last messages, that is why we have taken all kinds of steps to gain your confidence and trust.

First of all we are a legal company under US and International law (yes we do pay all our taxes) founded in 1991.

As you may see all over footsteps.tv we bear the Network Solutions SiteSafe Certificate, this certificate is only issued after a detailed investigation by Network Solutions (one of the leading internet validating companies in the world), if you click on the seal you'll be able to read the certificate and extra information; we also use the latest in security and encryption technology, anytime you are logged into your footsteps.tv account you'll be using SSL technology, just like the big boys use.
